Tent Porter Service v.s. Bring your own tent
Permalink

Looking for pros and cons of the Tent Porter Service. Did Ragbrai in July using my own tent but setting up and breaking down a damp tent from the morning dew quickly became old. Has anyone used the tent service on this or any other ride?

Set up my own tent for twenty years on this ride. Pick your own site, set the tent up, lay your fly out on the grass, everything dry in ten minutes. Carried a lightweight 10x10 tarp for rainy days.

The tent porters are an awesome option. They do usually get some of the prime flat spots around. Unless you are one of the fast riders or have a non riding per that will setup for you, some of those prime camping spots go fast. Not trying to discourage either method but each has its pros and cons. Personally i dont like to bring my own camping gear but if you do bring it, its the cheapest way to ride!
