I'm planning to do this ride 2-9 October 2021 and I was wondering what the weather would be like in western NC at that time? I'm expecting somewhat cold at night but other than that I have no clue. TIA for any info.
Magic 8 Ball says "Ask again later". We've started in the snow before (Boone, 2000), waked up to tents and bikes covered in frost (2007, 2017). Then again, we've camped in 80-90 degree weather at night (2018, 2019). Check the long range forecast the week before the ride. Have a 20-30° sleeping bag available, if temps look cold.
2 years ago we had mid 90s and it stayed hot and humid at night. So prepare for cool nights and hot muggy nights. Also plan for rain as theres usually one day/night of rain. Plan for everything and it will be fun!
Ditto on the 8 ball, I have done 20 and I can honestly say there has been 20 different weather situations. And it changes during the week. I remember one year being below freezing the first three nights but by the last night I was on top of my sleeping bag almost naked trying to stay cool. Just be prepared for anything, even three day forecasts have been horribly wrong. Best thing to bring along is a good attitude, it's a great adventure no matter what!
